De-novo
sequencing of peptides by MS/MS is the most powerful and convincing
way for protein identification and characterization because:
a.) no database-search engine (i.e., peptide mass mapping, Sequest/Mascot)
is 100 % reliable in identifying proteins; often they need to
be confirmed by interpreted peptide sequences, b.) not all proteins
are found in databases and c.) real data mining to extract biological
information can be done with actual sequences. Our QSTAR
hybrid mass spectrometer is dedicated for high sensitivity
sequencing.
